WeMo Mini WiFi Smart Plug

A little late to the HomeKit party but nonetheless welcome, WeMo has a number of compatible devices with the Mini WiFi Smart Plug being a bestseller.  Seemingly getting smaller and smaller by the year, this accessory is a simple yet effective tool for controlling dumb appliances.  Highlighting features like a very compact form factor, WIFi connectivity, and an “away” mode that randomizes power states to deter would-be intruders, the WeMo Mini WiFi Smart Plug is definitely one of the best, and smallest, HomeKit smart plugs of the year.

Aqara Smart Plug

Here at myHomeKithome, we are MASSIVE fans of Aqara’s entire lineup of smart home accessories. This includes the Aqara Smart Plug.  While there aren’t usually many differences between smart plugs a couple of stand-outs here are that it can manage up to 1875W which is higher than the normal 1800 for most modules.  It is also the only plug on this list to require a hub because it uses Zigbee meaning you can count on fast response times and a reliable connection.  The Aqara Smart Plug is a very solid contender no matter how you slice it. 

VOCOlinc SmartBar Smart Plug

We’ve reviewed lots of VOCOlinc’s HomeKit accessories including the SmmartBar Smart Plug, which you can check out here.  This is our personal pick for a stand-alone outlet based on it’s WiFi connectivity, it’s minimal footprint, and its competitive price.   Along with scheduling and automation functionality, the LinkWise app also provides an automatic reset function for remotely resetting whatever appliance you may have connected to it.  The VOCOlinc SmartBar is a great option for a simple smart plug.

Eve Energy

Receiving an overhaul earlier this year, the Eve Energy holds a unique place on this list for two reasons,  First, it is the only Bluetooth accessory on this list making it a very useful device if your internet goes down.  Secondly, this smart outlet has built-in power monitoring so you can see how much electricity is being consumed.  The Eve for HomeKit app is also one of the most feature-rich HomeKit apps out there.  It’s new slender design makes the Eve Energy a compelling option if power management or local connectivity is what you’re looking for.

Satechi Dual Smart Outlet

Last year, the Satechi Dual Smart Outlet took the HomeKit world by surprise sporting an amazingly miniature design, but knocking it out of the park with features.  The most obvious of which is its 2-in-1, individually controllable horizontal form factor.  Stunningly, the dual smart plug does not block the second outlet in the receptacle especially considering that this smart plug also includes energy monitoring for both plugs.  The Satechi Dual Smart Outlet is a smart buy if you’re looking for even one of its features.
