First Alert is releasing an update that will bring long-awaited Airplay 2 steamingn to its Onelink Safe & Sound CO and Smoke Detector

While the first generation Onelink CO & Smoke Detector, as well as the Safe & Sound shipped with HomeKit support for the included sensors, the latest generation Safe & Sound is getting a firmware update to allow it to work with Airplay 2, said the company in a press release.

The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide sensors allow for notifications through Apple’s Home app as well as the ability to use them as triggers in automations for other accessories and scenes.

The addition of Airplay 2 compatibility now means that you can have any Airplay 2 streamable audio play through the smoke detector. You can also use it as a siren as part of a diY security system in conjunction with other sensors and even other Airplay 2 speakers.

While there are a few different HomeKit CO sensors out there and even fewer smoke detectors, the Onelink is the only one that we are aware of that is readily available in the North American market and certainly the only one with Airplay 2 support.
