On Friday, IKEA began pushing firmware updates to their Tradfri Home Smart gateway bringing HomeKit support to their Fyrtur and Kadrilj smart blinds.

As first reported by Simon at HomeKit News, users on Reddit began noticing firmware updates to their IKEA Tradfri gateways which exposed their connected Fyrtur and Kadrilj smart blinds to HomeKit (firmware build 1.10.28).

IKEA hasn’t exactly had the best of luck with bringing HomeKit support to devices to their Home Smart platform and their smart blinds are no different. After launching the blinds early last year, they have pushed back expected launch dates repeatedly and the last update claimed ‘early 2020’ and 3 days into the new year certainly constitutes that.

The blinds work as any other window treatment in HomeKit allowing for opening and closing and the setting of the blinds anywhere in between. You can also add them to scenes and, even better, in conjunction with sensors like ambient light or temperature sensors to draw and retract based on needed light heating or cooling
